Tax-Free Weekend Florida – The tax-free weekend or holiday will begin on Monday, January 1, 2024, and will remain until January 14, 2024. It is similar to Florida’s long-standing summer back-to-school holidays, which will again take place this year.

A senior retail executive believes that businesses will benefit when Florida implements a tax “holiday” for the first time in response to students returning from winter break.
However, as 2024 approaches, Florida Retail Federation President and CEO Scott Shalley fears that the tax-free shopping season for apparel, school supplies, and personal computers may be lost in the holiday rush.
As a bonus, on New Year’s Eve, The Florida sales tax break is already in force and will remain until the middle of January. This tax-free period is akin to the tax-free back-to-school shopping available in Florida and other states throughout the summer.
Tax-Free Weekend Florida Date
Florida’s new tax relief package includes permanent sales tax exemptions for baby and toddler needs such as strollers, cribs, child safety gear, diapers, wipes, bottles, and under-five clothing and shoe purchases.
Other things that are permanently free from sales tax include oral hygiene products and weapon safety gear. These exemptions have the potential to save Florida families about $234 million.
In honor of back-to-school shopping, the package includes two sales tax holidays. These will take place on July 24-August 6, 2023, and January 1-January 14, 2024. During these holidays, it’s excellent to refill school supplies in preparation for the following academic year.
What are the benefits of Florida Tax-Free Holidays 2024?
It’s critical to remember that essential items must cost less than a specified amount, according to the Florida Department of Revenue. The following are the advantages of the tax vacation, which will begin on Monday, January 1, 2024:
Clothing, wallets, shoes, backpacks, and other accessories are all available for $100 or less.
Pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, notebooks, notebook filler paper, legal pads, binders, lunch boxes, construction paper, markers, folders, poster board, composition books, poster paper, scissors, cellophane tape, glue, paste, rulers, computer disks, staplers, staples, protractors, compasses, and calculators costing $50 or less are all exempt from sales tax.
Purchases of learning aids and puzzles, such as memory games, flashcards, and toys designed to teach math or reading abilities, totaling $30 or less, will be exempt from sales taxes.
Personal computers and their add-ons (purchased for non-commercial use at home or for personal use), such as keyboards, monitors, and other peripherals for $1,500 or less.
The tax exemption does not apply to video game consoles or cell phones.
Florida Sales Tax 2024
The 6% state sales tax, often known as the base tax, applies to the majority of purchases, leases, and rentals in Florida. In Florida, the maximum combined sales tax rate is 7.5%. Counties, cities, and special districts may levy an additional 1.5% local sales tax.
In total, Florida has 993 taxing jurisdictions. That translates to up to 993 separate sales tax rates for your organization to track. Florida has a county sales tax cap on transactions over $5,000.

Which Items Are Not Exempted in Florida Tax-Free Days 2024?
The following items are not eligible for the Florida Back-to-School Sales Tax Holidays in 2023 and 2024:
- Any article of clothes that costs more than $100.
- Any school supply costs more than $50.
- More than $30 for learning aids and jigsaw puzzles.
- Books that are otherwise not exempt.
- More than $1,500 computers and computer-related accessories.
- Computers and computer-related accessories purchased for business use.
- Repairs or modifications to any eligible object; or sales of any eligible item within an amusement park, theme park, public hotel, or airport.
Who Can Buy During Florida Tax-Free Days 2024?
Anyone can purchase qualified provided products for personal use. According to Florida law, political subdivisions (such as school districts or municipal libraries) as well as states, counties, and municipalities are not exempt from the state’s sales and use tax-free holiday sales.
