- Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz, and Anne L’Huillier were selected as winners of the Nobel Prize in Physics 2023.
- These three scientists “developed experimental methods for studying electron mobility in the matter by generating attosecond pulses of light”.
- Pierre Agostini is a French citizen, Ferenc Krausz is an Austrian of Hungarian origin and Anne L’Huillier is a French citizen.
- The Nobel Committee believes that their experiment will be of great help in understanding the world of electrons present in elements and substances.
- Anne Hullier has become the fifth woman to win a Nobel in the field of Physics. Till now, 119 people have been given this honor in the field of Physics.
Experiments Setup
Nobel Prize in Physics 2023 – The setup for the experiment was prepared by these scientists in the following steps.
- First of all a laser light is divided into 2 parts.
- To produce an attosecond pulse, the first light is deflected in a specified direction and passed through an inert gas.
- On the other hand, the light on the other side is reflected several times while keeping it in its original form so that it reaches the observation with a delay.
- After this, the attosecond pulse is passed through a filter and mixed with the second laser light.
- In this way, the movement of electrons can be studied in a better way.
