G-20 Group Formation Year

  • The creation of the G-20 was envisaged during the June 1999 summit of the G-7 in Cologne.
  • The G-20 was officially established on 26 September 1999 during the G-7 Finance Ministers meeting.
  • Its first meeting was held on 15-16 December 1999 in Berlin, the capital of Germany.
  • The then Canadian Finance Minister Paul Martin was its first chairman and German Finance Minister Hans Eichel hosted the first meeting.
